Braille Device Donation

Braille can be life-changing, but its ability to make a difference is limited by who has access to Braille materials. Increasingly often, this means access to a Braille display, because embossing and shipping paper Braille is time-consuming and expensive and fewer people are doing it (we’re still doing it, though, so paper books are always available from us). While a Braille display is expensive no matter where you are, there are many people who have no access to the technology that might dramatically improve their independence. Meanwhile, there are old, unwanted, or repairable Braille devices which could lessen this gap at least a little.

In our effort to make Braille available to as many people as possible, Seeing Hands is interested in finding unused Braille equipment that could be used by someone. Even old displays can be better than nothing, and even damaged displays can be repaired. If you have a Braille device that you no longer want and you’d like to see its life extended, we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to provide access to Braille to someone else. If you would like to learn more about our project, suggest methods that could be useful, or have equipment you’d like to donate, we would enjoy talking to you. You can reach us at brailledevicedonation@seeinghands.org or by calling our organization’s main number: 612-219-6271.
