The Haitian Creole Braille table which we developed and released last year has been added to the included tables of the Liblouis Braille translation library as of Liblouis version 3.39. This version was released yesterday, the 1st of September 2026. As software updates its version of Liblouis, this table should automatically become available there.

If you are using Liblouis directly, updating to 3.39 will provide the table. If you are using other software, including screen readers or Braille translation software, we have a little longer to wait. We just missed the deadline to include the table in NVDA 2026.2, so for NVDA users, the add-on is still necessary. We hope that this will be unnecessary when NVDA 2026.3 is released. The table file is compatible with recent earlier versions of Liblouis, so it can be manually added to any software which supports nonstandard table files. If you would like to use the table but the software isn’t updated to 3.39 yet, you can find the table files and instructions on GitHub. You can also contact us and we can help campaign for the update to be included.
