Slightly over a month and 3,000 device lookups since we launched it, the BrailleDB database of Braille displays has been updated to version 1.1, including improvements and fixes suggested by users. Here’s what you’ll find in this new version:

• External keyboard support is now recorded for all displays. You can find whether any display supports a keyboard over USB or Bluetooth and filter displays on that as well.
• Improved field labels. Previously, the numeric minimum and maximum fields relied on spacial labels. Better labels have been added, which should make it faster to move through the advanced search page.
• Improvements and corrections to some device information, and updates to things that have changed since August. We update the database often, so device data stays up-to-date even if the version number doesn’t increase.
• Descriptions of routing where it’s more detailed than the presence or absence of routing buttons is now in a more logical place.

Many of the changes we made in this version are thanks to great suggestions made by users. If you have any ideas for how this could be improved, we encourage you to let us know. You can either drop a message in our suggestion box or, if you’re interested in playing a more active role, such as discussing how best to achieve a goal, testing prerelease versions, or maintaining device records, express that interest in our BrailleDB volunteer survey.
